Rolling On...

9/1/2020

For the past 6 or more months, I've been busy painting a house. Walls, cabinets, etc. Rolling, rolling. But I did find time to pick up a few brushes and do this dog portrait of Scarlett and Butler, two fine German Shepherds who live in San Diego.

Playing with Mixed Media

A few more recent things I've never posted.  The diptych is from an oil pastel I painted of a beggar at the Gaudi Gardens in Barcelona. Never really liked it until I cut it up and used it here.  The others are from a workshop I took with Susan Best. Good to get out of your comfort zone!

Got a commission from HEB to paint another boot for them. This was delivered to their new Hudson Oaks store near Weatherford. Lots of veggies and fruit with the emphasis on peaches which are grown in that locale.

Much to my surprise, this painting I did years ago for the opening of The Leaning Pear restaurant in Wimberley was selected by the Wimberley Valley Art League to be the designated image for 2019 Arts Fest. What an honor! And it does look pretty good on a T-shirt...

OH WHAT HAPPENS IN A WORKSHOP!

I was fortunate to take a great workshop from Joan Fullerton using mixed media. I think it may totally change the way I work! Let me know what you think of this new direction. I know one thing for sure. It sure is fun and freeing not to paint from a photograph.

I worked and worked on this one and had to finally say "it's done." Sometimes you reach a point where you can't look at a painting anymore... Moving on to the next one!

COOL ART AND PRICKLY ART

7/4/2017

The Wimberley Valley Art League has a show coming up this weekend called the Cool Art Show. I painted Coolcumbers for the show, and thought I would also enter this mixed media (mostly encaustic) piece that I call Blanco Blooms. Both were a lot of fun to paint. Have a couple more I am entering, but you'll need to come to the show to see them. Come Friday, 7/7 from 5 to 7 and enjoy libations, appetizers, and watch the ice block turn into a work of art. For more info, wimberleyartleague.org is the place to visit. The Cool Show is the place to chill.

the saga of the fireplace

I wanted to paint something I could hang over my fireplace. After stewing about it for months, I decided to paint a large agave and incorporate many of the colors in my home. Just to get some outside opinions, I entered it into a show. It sold. So now I'm thinking about what I can paint next for my fireplace. Who knows? This time, I won't put it in a show!

texas in tallinn

Just finished this painting for the annual Show and Sale which will be on November 20-22 in Wimberley. This one is quite large; 40 x 30 and was a good exercise for me in perspective. It's based on a photo I took of a very old building in Tallinn, Estonia that had been turned into a Texas cantina. Who would have guessed? Texans are everywhere!
